Last night Vh1 aired “Hip Hop Honors,” which returned after a six-year hiatus, with its triumph return, it was only right that Vh1 honor the women in rap music. The ceremony special gave praise to artists such as Missy Elliott, Lil Kim, Salt-N-Peppa and Jersey’s own Queen Latifah. The Rap Pioneers were honored by some of their closest friends and collaborators.
Vh1 Hip Hop honors gave us a blast from the past as they paid tribute to some of the first ladies of hip-hop. Starting things off with Queen Latifah who opened up her tribute with Oscar nominated role as Mama Morton performing ‘When You’re Good to Mama, the Queen had people on their feet as she performed her hits ‘Come Into My House,”Had It Up 2 Here,’ ‘Monie In The Middle’ and ‘Ladies’ First,’ featuring Rah Digga, Lady of Rage, Da Brat and Yo Yo.
The good feeling of rap in the late 80’s/early 90’s weren’t just done yet, as Keke Palmer,Dreezy, Ashanti performed Salt-N-Pepa’s iconic hits ‘Shoop,’ ‘Whatta Man’ and ‘Push It’
