This past Monday Big Sean made his return to the music scene when his new visual for Single Again dropped. The short film, which stars real-life couple Ryan Destiny and Keith Powers was inspired by Sean’s relationship with Aiko, is a cautionary tale of what can happen in the court of public opinion when we believe what we see on social media.

The video has a lot of important messages, but the main one is for people to ‘wake up and smell the roses’ in a world where we wake up and check our phones instead.” said Big sean while explaining his new visual. Video director Lawrence Lamont added “The visual highlights a few social issues, including social media’s ability to sway people’s opinions to the point of disharmony, the social pressures faced by Millennial’s and Generation Y and media coverage of the Black man. Masego is celebrating black women everywhere. Just yesterday the multi-talented singer unleashed his mesmerizing visual for Queen Tings. Directed by Brilliant Garcia, the video is a sentiment to the diaspora of black women which plays perfectly to the track. The video also features Singer-songwriter Tiffany Gouché who’s verse serving as an ode to motherhood.

“‘Queen Tings’ was a combination of my excitement for Black Panther, Black History Month, and my upcoming trip to Cape Town,” he told Essence. “I was in the studio with Kojo and Nicky [Quinn], talking and playing beats and then Nicky put on the beat for ‘Queen Tings’ and the song pretty much wrote itself,” he added. “We dropped a short version of it that same day.”

As the official Lion King movie soundtrack was released last week. One of the movie co-stars Beyoncé has taken today to unveil the cover and track list for her compilation project – “The Lion King: The Gift.” Excusive produced by Bey, the album serves as a “love letter to Africa.” The new album features guest appearances from Burna Boy, Kendrick Lamar, Jay-Z, Childish Gambino, Pharrell, daughter Blue Ivy Carter, Wiz Kid, Tiera Whack, 070 Shake and a number of African artists.

“This soundtrack is a love letter to Africa and I wanted to make sure we found the best talent from Africa, and not just use some of the sounds and did my interpretation of it,” the singer told ABC News. “I wanted it to be authentic to what is beautiful about the music in Africa,” she added “I wanted to put everyone on their own journey to link the storyline. Each song was written to reflect the film’s storytelling that gives the listener a chance to imagine their own imagery, while listening to a new contemporary interpretation. It was important that the music was not only performed by the most interesting and talented artists but also produced by the best African producers. Authenticity and heart were important to me.”

With the album arriving July 19th, Bey pulled another surprised her fans as she dropped the official video for “Spirit” ealier today on ABC tonight during the Lion King 20/20 special hosted by Robin Roberts. Check out the official tracklist below.

GRAMMY Award-winning rapper COMMON will release his new album Let Love on August 30, 2019, his debut for Loma Vista Recordings. In tandem with this announcement, he shared his latest single and music video “Hercules” feat. Swizz Beatz. On the track, Common serves up his sharp signature wordplay between soulful backing vocals from Swizz Beatz. Meanwhile, the music video directed by Carrick Weezer sees Common thwart a convenience store robbery caught on surveillance camera—in between rapping into his iPhone. Vince Staples makes a cameo as the cashier.

“Hercules” follows on the heels of the recent single “HER Love” featuring Daniel Caesar, special guest Dwele, and an unreleased beat from J Dilla. COMMON will kick off his Let Love Tour, which starts in Denver, Colorado at Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom tonight, and continues through marquee venues in the US and Canada before touring Europe for the first time since 2014.
