Two years after dropping his Grammy-nominated debut album American Teen, Khalid returns today with his sophomore album Free Spirit. Lead by his single Better, the 17 track LP features his previously released songs “Self,” “Don’t Pretend,” “My Bad,” and the Disclosure-produced lead single “Talk.”
“I wrote American Teen at 17 years old,” Khalid told Zane Lowe on Beats 1. “Now I get to release this at 20-21, so it’s a completely different mind frame.” This album is the culmination of all of the growth and experiences I have gathered over the past two remarkable years,” said Khalid. “I have been in the studio pouring my soul and spirit to create a body of work that I hope speaks to each and every one of you.” Before kicking off his Khalid Free Spirit World Tour” on June 20th, Khalid will be hitting the Coachella next weekend.
Along with releasing his sophmore album, Khalid has also filmed his short film of the same name, directed by Emil Nava.
