Since the release of his debut Album Sum Of My Music, Jussie Smollett has been keeping very busy. Just yesterday the singer/actor premiered the video for his latest single, “Hurt People.” The follow up to his Swizz Beatz produced single “Catch Your Eye.”

Says Smollett of the “Hurt People” video: “I hope and pray this visual will both entertain and inspire. The theme of tolerance and love was completely inspired by Nelson Mandela and the triumphant spirit of the people of South Africa and all African nations that lives within all of us regardless of race, gender or sexual orientation. This is an anthem for every person that is ready to break the cycle of hurt people hurting people.”

“‘Sedated’ is a metaphor for how intoxicating love can be when you have ended up on the wrong side so many times,” she explains to Billboard. “Women are so strong, yet experience many unique pressures. ‘Sedated’ is a narrative that explores the want and desire for love juxtaposed with the fear of the challenges and hurt that can come with it.
